Braised Cabbage

Simple, delicious braised cabbage recipe

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 medium onion
  • 1 medium carrot
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil (or oilve oil)
  • 2 lbs of white cabbage
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground black pepper
  • Cilantro or parsley to garnish (optional)

HOW TO MAKE IT

  1. Finely mince onion.
  2. Grate carrot on vegetable shredder.
  3. Heat oil in skillet; add finely minced onion and carrot and saute for approximately 5 minutes.
  4. Chop cabbage into fine pieces.
  5. Cover pan with lid and braise for about 40 minutes, stirring occasionally, or cook until golden in colour.
  6. Add tomato paste, salt and ground black pepper; braise for another 5 minutes or so.
  7. Serve warm on it’s own, or garnish with cilantro or parsley.
